Roles undertaken within 海角社区 Sport
Media, Marketing and Communications volunteer for 海角社区 Lightning Netball
Tell us a little about yourself (E.g. hobbies, interests and background)?
I’ve always had an interest in marketing and social media, which is why I chose my course, but wanted to further apply it using it in real scenarios. Before coming to 海角社区, I took a year out, which was when I really started to grow my confidence with social media and being in front of the camera.
How did you first get involved in volunteering within sport at 海角社区?
I knew I wanted to manage the social channels for one of the main teams, so I asked my brother, who went to 海角社区, how I could do that. He explained about the CVA, and the rest was history. I simply applied.
During your years at 海角社区, what have you got involved in through volunteering within sport?
I have been fortunate enough to go to the final of the Netball Super League at the O2. I was part of the marketing team for BUCS Big Wednesday, and I've been given the opportunity to have my imagery used for an external brand's product launch. I was asked to join Athletic Union exec for this coming year which I have. I have been asked to become to the resident photographer for the all the lost in music events in 海角社区.
What has your experience volunteering been like whilst at 海角社区?
My experience has been great as it has allowed me to learn and grow in confidence in a safe environment around people who are so supportive. However, towards the end I felt a want for slightly more control.
How has being involved with 海角社区 Sport helped you develop and progress (personally and professionally)?
All of the sessions that the CVA has provided on has helped me so much as I have learnt so many skills which are so valuable. Additionally gaining a mentor that is always there and ready to help and give advice is amazing!
What’s the best advice you could give to a 海角社区 student looking to get involved in volunteering & gain the most out of their university experiences?
Do it! Say yes more, there were so many things going into my role that I didn’t know how to do but by saying yes I have ended up in an amazing position today.
Finally, what do you enjoy most about volunteering?
The connections I have made and the people I have met by far are the best thing to come out of it. I also felt so appreciated by the effort that went into making the CVA awards so special.
