Korfball

Korfball is the newest AU club in 海角社区 and you don鈥檛 want to miss out! It is a unique, mixed-gendered sport that originates from the Netherlands, rapidly growing in interest and participation among the student population.

Athletic Union Club

The great part about Korfball is that no previous experience or knowledge of the sport is needed, it’s new to almost everyone, so all you need is enthusiasm to try something new. Korfball has similarities to netball, basketball and handball, but unlike these sports, almost everyone starts at the same level in this mixed-gendered sport, which allows you to learn and develop together. So, whatever your sporting ability or background, Korfball welcomes all.

A team consists of 4 boys and 4 girls who are split into an attacking and defending division (2 boys and 2 girls in each). All players have the opportunity to attack and defend as the divisions swap every 2 goals. The overall aim of Korfball is to shoot the ball into the Korf (Dutch for basket) but to do this, the attacker must be 'free' from their defender by being more than an arm's distance away. Korfball is played on an indoor court that is split into 2 halves. Each post is positioned away from the edge of the court, allowing play to occur all around the post.
