Staff Managed Desktop Service: Preparing for the Windows 11 upgrade

From autumn 2024 IT Services will be rolling out Windows 11, the latest Microsoft operating system, to devices on the staff-managed desktop service.

Upgrading devices to Windows 11 will ensure users are supported with the latest features, security and functionality to support collaborations, teaching and learning. 

Preparing your device

Ensure that your device is ready by backing up your data. 

If you keep files and folders on your device's desktop, you will be required to review the data stored on your desktop and take steps to back up files and folders to your University OneDrive account (cloud-based storage). This is because the process for upgrading to Windows 11 will erase the contents of the computer disk drive. It is the responsibility of the end-user to ensure that files and folders are saved on OneDrive.
