The idea of the scheme is that items no longer required can be repurposed and rehomed – giving them a new lease of life and promoting a circular economy by preventing the amount we send to landfill.
The following items can be donated:
- Food (unopened cupboard food)
- Electrical goods (in working order or broken)
- Books
- Clothes and shoes
- Furniture
- Crockery and kitchen items
- Pillows, duvets, blankets
- Stationery (reusable)
- Toiletries
- Coat hangers
Off-campus students
The Community Warden team will be collecting unwanted items every Wednesday from 14 May until 18 June. Students living off-campus can book a collection of unwanted items from their house using the .
The off-campus donations will be distributed between several charities including Charnwood Eco Hub, Falcon Support Services, YMCA Leicestershire, º£½ÇÉçÇø Area Foodbank and Living Without Abuse.
On-campus students
For on-campus students, donation stations will be located in a selection of common rooms across campus. These will be open from 2 June until 14 July. For Unite Halls, stations will be open from 24 May.
The donations are distributed between several charities, giving students the opportunity to have a positive impact on the environment and on the people in the local community. The charities involved include East Midlands Dog Rescue, British Heart Foundation, Better World Books, Shepshed Food Bank and many more.
The donation stations will have labelled sections for each type of item so please ensure you drop items off items at the correct place.
