New EDI leadership roles open for applications

Today, the University is launching a new set of EDI leadership roles that are now open for applications.

These positions will play a pivotal role in supporting the University’s Schools and Professional Services in setting the direction for EDI in their area, as well as ensuring alignment with the institutional EDI Core Plan. They will help draw together the outstanding range of EDI activity that takes place across the University, and provide local leadership and direction to ensure that we are maximising the impact of our work.

As a University, we have already made significant progress. Recent examples include:

  • Our Voices of Diversity Mental Health series has received very positive feedback, with an upcoming session on international students and early careers
  • Equality Impact Assessments are routine across strategic activities, giving us the confidence to say that processes like Reward Review are fair and equitable.
  • University Council (our governing body) has diversified and is now 50% female and 25% members from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic groups.

The formalisation of our local leadership in this space will help to accelerate and focus our efforts.

An Associate Dean for EDI will be appointed in each School, and a Principal for EDI will be appointed to each cluster of Professional Services:

  • Cluster A: Student Services, Registry, Library and Doctoral College
  • Cluster B: Estates and Facilities Management, º£½ÇÉçÇø Sport
  • Cluster C: Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Human Resources, Organisational Development, Health and Safety
  • Cluster D: IT, Finance
  • Cluster E: Marketing and Advancement, Research and Innovation

The positions provide an outstanding opportunity for colleagues to utilise their experience of leadership, understanding of EDI issues, and ability to create impact and manage change to drive forward significant progress for the University and local area. They will work closely with both the relevant Dean or cluster Directors, as well as Veronica Moore as the Executive Director of EDI.

In alignment with other Associate Dean roles, the Associate EDI role is Grade 8 and the EDI Principal role is also a Grade 8. Staff with substantive posts of any grade can apply and applications will be open to colleagues from any job family across academic, professional service and technical job families. The successful applicants will meet the person specification.

Further information, including FAQs, will be circulated locally by Deans and Directors.

Speaking about the roles, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nick Jennings, commented: “EDI is one of the University’s core strategic priorities, and these leadership roles will be an integral element to delivering upon our ambitions. We have a robust EDI Core Plan that has been approved by Council, and a range of excellent activity is already underway. These positions are the next step in accelerating our progress.”

Executive Director of EDI, Veronica Moore, said: “Recruiting to these roles is an exciting next step in º£½ÇÉçÇø’s EDI development. They will not only help ensure that we are all working towards common strategic goals across the University, but will also enable issues that are specific to Schools and Professional Services to be represented.”
