General Assembly: A summary from 6 March 2024

Last week, the second General Assembly for the 2023/24 academic year was held.

The event was led by the Vice Chancellor Professor Nick Jennings, who provided an update on our University Strategy and reflected on our achievements and performance for this year so far. 

Professor Jennings shared progress against each of the six Core Plans and the Enabling Projects which underpin the delivery of the University Strategy. Additionally, he presented important updates linked to pay and benefits, the University’s financial position, and the international student recruitment market.  

He was joined by Professor Dan Parsons, the Pro Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation, who introduced and provided an overview of the  . Professor Parsons explained how the plan will be delivered collaboratively across the University, using the knowledge, skills and expertise of different teams and individuals. He then went into more detail about the three overarching objectives in the plan: impact, focus, and culture, and the measures that would be used to track progress. 

Following the presentation, the Vice-Chancellor invited colleagues to ask questions. The key topics discussed included a potential partnership with KSA, ambitions for increasing numbers of Doctoral Researchers and car parking on the East Midlands campus.

The next General Assembly will be held on Wednesday 22 May from 2pm-3pm. Further information, including a formal agenda and booking details, will be provided closer to the time. The focused theme for this session will be around the three Strategic Themes: Sport, Health and Wellbeing; Climate Change and Net Zero; and Vibrant and Inclusive Communities.
