Don’t miss this Voices of Diversity talk with artist Kedisha Coakley

As part of the University’s Voices of Diversity series, Kedisha Coakley will be visiting campus for a talk about her arts practice.

Kedisha has been invited by LU Arts to create a new artwork in response to the physical or historical context of the University. The work will then become part of the University’s art collection.

She is currently researching the history of the stained glass, which is prominent in Hazlerigg and Rutland buildings. She will be creating a new work that engages with the symbols and meanings contained within these works.

Kedisha is a Sheffield-based artist of Caribbean descent. Her practice reconsiders objects and cultural symbols and reframes history, race, culture, and conventions of curatorial practice. Her practice spans sculpture, printmaking, and photography, predominantly casting in bronze, through which she interrogates Black histories and experiences. Investigating the overlooked, she remixes aesthetics, techniques, and cultural references throughout her work.

This event will take place on Wednesday 6 December from 1pm-2pm and a Microsoft Teams link is available for those who are unable to attend in person. The event is free, but booking is required.

Find out more about the event on the dedicated webpage and book your place.
