Part of a week of activities for the IAS Research Summit - Rethinking Urban Inequalities. 

In the Speculative City News workshop participants take their own research and pitch a future news story grounded in their data. Using speculative methods and the journalistic genre of storytelling, we will explore how our research findings might be implicated and inform future scenarios. Participants will be guided to dig into their own data and research to build out a speculative news story in small groups — sourcing quotes and figures, manipulating or sourcing photography, and drafting a publishable copy. The session closes with all groups sharing and reviewing each other's stories. The exercise is designed to explore a skill central to the summit's wider aims: translating structural, often abstract critiques of urban inequality into concrete, public-facing narratives that are grounded in evidence and actionable.
